The cast for Disney’s upcoming live action remake of The Lion King has rounded out its cast with a handful of Hollywood all-stars including Beyoncé, Seth Rogen and John Oliver!
When The Lion King roars back into theaters, it’ll do so with the help of some of Hollywood’s biggest names! Months after confirming the casting of Atlanta star Donald Glover in the role of Simba and James Earl Jones as Mufusa, Disney took to social media to unveil the complete lineup for the film which will drop in Summer 2019.
Heading the new additions to the cast is Grammy-winning artist Beyoncé Knowles-Carter who has been cast in the role of Nala which should come as no surprise given how badly director Jon Favreau wanted the singer to land the role. She is joined by some of Hollywood’s biggest names with Chiwetel Ejiofor cast as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Bill Eichner as Timon, Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Karumba as Shenzi, Keegan Michael Key as Manari, JD McCrary as Young Simba and Shahadi Wright Joseph as Young Nala.
In addition to finally confirming the cast for its live-action Lion King reboot, Disney has also helped to narrow down the time frame of the film’s release to be Summer 2019 – which should bring about a release date ranging from May to September.
Following the success of Maleficent, Cinderella , The Jungle Book and this March’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney has entered a live-action renaissance with live-action remakes of several of its iconic animated properties currently in the works including Mulan, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and more.
