It’s been nearly four years since Tomas Alfredson’s gripping spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was released, and now the director is ready to make a return with The Snowman, based on Jo Nesbø’s global bestseller, with an A-list cast ready to back him up.
As per the film’s official synopsis, The Snowman stars Michael Fassbender as an elite crime squad’s lead detective as he investigates the disappearance of a woman on the first snow of winter, suspecting an elusive serial killer may be on the loose again. With the assistance of a new recruit (Rebecca Ferguson), the cop is tasked with connecting decades-old cold cases to a string of fresher, more brutal ones, to outwit the suspect before he strikes again.
The Snowman, which also stars JK Simmons, Val Kilmer, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, may look like your typical detective thriller upon first glance, and probably wouldn’t even be generating as much buzz as it is if it weren’t for the impressive cast, but keep in mind that this is an Alfredson-directed film. If you’re familiar with his work, especially Let the Right One In, then you’re probably aware that he’s not the type of filmmaker that delivers boring, subpar genre fare.
If you’re as intrigued as we are, be sure to check out The Snowman when it arrives in theaters just in time for Halloween on October 20.
