Charlie's Angels Reboot Set for 2019

May 24, 2017

Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks is bringing Charlie's Angels back to the big screen in a brand new movie – and it's now landed a release date.

Sony has confirmed that the film will hit cinemas on June 7, 2019.

There are currently no details on who'll be leading the cast, but we're willing to put good money on Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson taking on several of the film's lead roles.

Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Cheryl Ladd, Kate Jackson and Tanya Roberts were the first Angels in the original TV series, which ran from 1976 to 1981.

Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore had two successful movie outings in the 2000s, though Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh's ABC show was canned after just four episodes.

More recently, Pitch Perfect 3 hit a snag due to PP2 star Elizabeth Banks unexpectedly pulling out of her director role, citing the film's delayed release date as a major reason why.

"The new schedule butts up against my parental responsibilities in a way I'm not really comfortable with," she said at the time.

"Development always takes longer than you expect it to. We feel obligated to put out the absolute best next movie; we've been developing our asses off [...] This third one is hard to figure out what the story is."

Banks is still expected to reprise her role as a capella competition commentator Gail in the next instalment and she'll also stay on as a producer.

Pitch Perfect 3 was previously scheduled for July 21, 2017, then moved again to August 4, 2017, and will now be released just before Christmas on December 22, 2017.
