Resurrecting Bruce Lee: Biopic Announced

May 5, 2015

Not only is Bruce Lee one of the most successful and infamous actors in the history of Hollywood, he is also the epitome of action, stunt work and martial arts on the big screen. Lee, unfortunately, was taken from this world a little too soon, but even so, the popular martial artist left behind a legacy, a legacy which many value and cherish. However, Bruce Lee’s legacy is the only thing related to the actor that the world now has left as the world does not have any insight into the actual life of the actor, his beliefs, his routines and his feelings.

In 1993, Rob Cohen made a biographic film titled ‘Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story’ that was designed to narrate the story of Bruce Lee’s life, although the biopic was based on the autobiography that Bruce Lee’s widow, Linda Lee Caldwell, wrote. Ever since 1993, the story of the great actor has not been told in film format, and certainly not in any better way than ‘Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story’ did.

When one talks about Lee in a modern context, the latest happenings that the actor is involved in is the upcoming third installation of the highly popular ‘IP Man’ series of films. At the end of the last IP Man movie, viewers got to see a young Lee, who was instructed by the ‘IP Man’ to come back to him to learn how to deal with people he doesn’t like once he is older, hinting towards yet another addition to the series. IP Man 3 is currently in the works and some highly reliable chatter suggests that the film will feature, along with notorious yet legendary boxer Mike Tyson, a resurrected Bruce Lee. Resurrected how, you ask? Well, the production team of the movie will be performing some ‘screen magic’ and using special effects to bring Lee, or at least his previous works, back to life in a new light.

The IP Man 3 movie and the fact that it will feature a resurrected Bruce Lee is pretty big news, but what is even bigger news is that, as rumor has it, Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, along with Lawrence Grey and Janet Yang, is working on an official Bruce Lee biographic independent film that covers each and every single aspect of the late, great Bruce Lee. The soon to be created biographic film based on Bruce Lee’s life is set to tell the actor’s story in an even brighter and clearer light than the 1993 biopic did, and that is definitely something worth getting excited about.

However, Bruce Lee’s own daughter, Shannon Lee, will be telling her father’s story through the film, the film production of which is set to begin soon. This is quite an advantage in the form of the fact that the audience will receive unprecedented and unparalleled insight into how Lee lived his life, but can also prove to be quite a disadvantage because of the known fact that the involvement of family in the making of a biopic can result in an absence of objectivity, resulting in a few pages of the subject’s story being skipped over. In any case, the official Bruce Lee biopic is most definitely good news for film enthusiasts all over the world.
